Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, son of the famous Johann Sebastian, was one of the most celebrated keyboard instrumentalists of the 18th century. As an extremely prolific composer and theorist, he shaped the so-called style of sensibility (Empfindsamkeit) – music that expresses feelings through subtle contrasts and surprising harmonic turns. From the Berlin sonatas to his sparkling fantasias, his work, which was printed at great expense for both connoisseurs and amateurs at the time, is still considered a pinnacle of musical expressiveness today. With his virtuoso playing, Arnaud De Pasquale brings the full depth and power of this music to life.
