Composers: Bartók, Béla · Mahler, Gustav · Schumann, Robert
Artists: Bronfman, Yefim · Nelsons, Andris · Vienna Philharmonic
Andris Nelsons and the Vienna Philharmonic explore the brilliance of Béla Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 2 and the emotional depth of Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony. Passionate yet restrained, Andris Nelsons conducts both masterpieces with outstanding clarity and precision: Mahler's famous Adagietto unfolds with 'unearthly shimmer and dark radiance' (BR Klassik). Yefim Bronfman is the soloist in one of the most difficult piano concertos ever written, impressing with 'flawless technique, expressiveness and a touch of swing' (Der Standard). As an encore, the Philharmonic plays Robert Schumann's Arabesque. The concert is part of the Vienna Philharmonic's Mahler cycle with Andris Nelsons. The video recordings were made live at the Grosses Festspielhaus on the occasion of the 2022 Salzburg Festival.
