Andris Nelsons conducts the Vienna Philharmonic

In this concert, the Vienna Philharmonic under the baton of Andris Nelsons presents a "heavenly" pairing: Alban Berg's Violin Concerto "To the Memory of an Angel" alongside Mahler's Fourth Symphony, whose final movement sets the song "The Heavenly Life" from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" to music. With this performance, the young German-American violinist Augustin Hadelich made his debut at the Salzburg Festival and delighted the press: "The fabulous Augustin Hadelich filled the difficult solo part with feeling and fragility, his playing was sensitive yet glowing." (Die Presse). With Mahler's Fourth, Andris Nelsons creates "a Mahlerian miracle of quiet tones" (Volksblatt), accompanied by the German soprano Christiane Karg as the soloist of the finale.
