Description

This album presents two compositions from 1929, when radio was still in its infancy. Eduard Künneke’s five-movement concerto grosso "Tänzerische Suite" (Dance Suite), Op. 26, for jazz band and large orchestra was the sixth composition commissioned from the composer by the Berlin Funk-Stunde. The movements corresponded to modern dances: foxtrot, blues, tango, valse boston, and another foxtrot. Hanns Eisler’s cantata "Tempo der Zeit" (The Pace of the Times), Op. 16, for soloists, speaker, choir, winds, and percussion was composed in 1929 as a commission for the Donaueschingen Music Festival. The libretto was written by the famous popular songwriter Robert Gilbert ("Ein Freund, ein guter Freund") under his pseudonym, David Weber.
