Ysaÿe, Eugène

Eugène Ysaÿe was born in Liège in 1858 and died in Brussels in 1931. The Belgian violinist and composer received his first lessons from his father and refined his training with Henryk Wieniawski and Henri Vieuxtemps, among others. As a representative of the Franco-Belgian violin school, he combined technical mastery with great tonal expressiveness. His international career led him as a soloist, concertmaster, and teacher to important centers of musical life. His compositional work is also closely connected to the possibilities of the violin. In his works, practical experience and musical imagination meet. Their different interpretations allow for a vivid insight into an important tradition of violin playing even today.
