Salieri, Antonio
Antonio Salieri was born in Legnago in 1750 and died in Vienna in 1825. Antonio Salieri was an Italian composer. Salieri was a key figure in the development of opera in the late 18th century. His music is still performed and admired all over the world today. As a student of Florian Leopold Gassmann and a protégé of Christoph Willibald Gluck, Salieri was a cosmopolitan composer who wrote operas in three languages. Salieri helped to develop and shape many features of the compositional vocabulary of opera, and his music exerted a strong influence on contemporary composers. His unique musical legacy lives on.
