Rubinstein, Anton
Anton Rubinstein was born in Ofatinți in 1829 and died in Peterhof in 1894. Anton Rubinstein was a Russian pianist. He was the older brother of Nikolai Rubinstein, the founder of the Moscow Conservatory. His music is still performed and admired all over the world today. He became known primarily for his series of historical concerts, seven huge, consecutive concerts covering the history of piano music. Although Rubinstein is primarily remembered as a pianist and pedagogue, he was also a prolific composer; he wrote 20 operas, the best known of which is "The Demon." His independent, expressive, imaginative, influential, and enduring musical legacy lives on.
