Portrait of Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky

Mussorgsky, Modest

Modest Mussorgsky was born in 1839 in Karevo and died in 1881 in Saint Petersburg. Modest Mussorgsky was a Russian composer. Many of Mussorgsky's works were inspired by Russian history, Russian folklore, and other national themes. His music is still performed and admired all over the world today. These works include the opera "Boris Godunov," the orchestral tone poem "Night on Bald Mountain," and the piano suite "Pictures at an Exhibition." For many years, Mussorgsky's works were primarily known in versions revised or supplemented by other composers. Mussorgsky's Complete Works: Academic Edition is being published. His unique, expressive, and imaginative musical legacy lives on.
