Herrmann, Bernard
Bernard Herrmann was born in New York City in 1911 and died in Los Angeles in 1975. Bernard Herrmann was an American composer and conductor. He is widely considered one of the greatest film composers of all time. His music is still performed and admired all over the world today. Alex Ross writes: "Over the course of four decades, he revolutionized film music by abandoning the illustrative musical techniques that dominated Hollywood in the 1930s and imposing his own peculiar harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary." As a conductor, he championed the music of lesser-known composers. His distinct, expressive, and imaginative musical legacy lives on.
