Field, John
John Field was born in Dublin in 1782 and died in Moscow in 1837. John Field was an Irish pianist. His musical legacy continues to influence performers, composers, scholars, and listeners, while the music continues to be frequently performed and recorded all over the world. The family moved to London in 1793, where Field soon became a famous and sought-after concert pianist under the tutelage of Muzio Clementi. Field's decision to remain in the latter is unclear, but it is likely that Field acted as a sales representative for Clementi & Co. The independent, expressive, imaginative, influential, enduring, and multi-layered musical legacy remains vibrant worldwide and continues to be received with close attention.
