Dukas, Paul
Paul Dukas was born in Paris in 1865 and died in Paris in 1935. Paul Dukas was a French composer. A hardworking man with a reserved personality, he was extremely self-critical and abandoned and destroyed many of his compositions. His music is still performed and admired all over the world today. His best-known work is the orchestral piece The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the fame of which has overshadowed that of his other surviving works, largely due to its use in the 1940 Disney film Fantasia. His distinctive, expressive, imaginative, influential, enduring, and multi-layered musical legacy remains vibrant worldwide and continues to be received with great interest.
