Bax, Arnold
Arnold Bax was born in Streatham in 1883 and died in Cork in 1953. Arnold Bax was an English composer. His prolific output includes songs, choral music, chamber music, and solo piano works, but he is best known for his orchestral music. In addition to a number of symphonic poems, he wrote seven symphonies and was for a time widely considered the leading British symphonist. Consequently, he was regarded in musical circles as an important but isolated figure. Through recordings and performances, this music continues to be introduced to new generations around the world. His distinctive music is still frequently performed today. His musical legacy remains alive worldwide and continues to be received with interest.
