In der von Pierre Monteux uraufgeführten „Rhapsody for cello and orchestra“ fand der junge Komponist erstmals seine eigene Stimme. Das „Notturno ungherese“ ist laut Rózsa ‚ein nostalgisches Nachtstück, das auf meine Kindheitserinnerungen in Ungarn zurückgreift‘. Und das Doppelkonzert, die „Sinfonia concertante für Violine und Cello“, ein Spätwerk, ist eines der am wenigsten ‚filmischen‘ in seinem Œuvre und vielleicht sein meist unterschätztes Meisterwerk.
