Reger was very much in tune with the spirit of his time: the grand idea that would have found no place in the operas of his era is transferred to the concert hall. The Hebbel Requiem op. 144b bears audible parallels to Brahms' Requiem. The album is completed by orchestral songs by Gustav Mahler.
