He put together a highly original program for his appearance, by no means only with the well-known \"crowd-pleasers\", but it even contains some real rarities that are not often heard. These include Rossini's overture to Il viaggio a Reims, Strauss' Burlesque, Honegger's charming Concertino as well as Zimmermann's Caboclo – the latter piece had not yet been released under the direction of Ferenc Fricsay. Ferenc Fricsay was born in Budapest in 1914 and died, only 48 years old, in Basel in 1963. He possessed a highly developed sense for the specific requirements of sound recording production and carried this out with the utmost care and eminent technical know-how. At the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and also with the Berlin Philharmonic, he was a welcome guest; his serious illness, which became apparent as early as the late 1950s, only allowed a part of the planned recordings to become a reality.
