She is the first and only conductor to receive a MacArthur Fellowship, and the first woman to serve as music director of a major orchestra in the United States, South America, Austria, and Britain. Alsop is Chief Conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Philharmonia
